WC has had so many promises, that haven't been fulfilled. I think there are tons of people who would not buy Ark 2. Originally posted by KitsuneShiro:I think WC jumping over to Ark 2 and abandoning Ark in its current state would be a bad idea. How do you think Wildcard could make an Ark 2 that wasn't simply this? What ideas do you think could help keep such a sequel fresh and new while still retaining the things that made Ark a success despite it's technical limitations? All of which leads me to this:ĭo you guys think we should expect to see an Ark 2, or do you think Wildcard will go in a somewhat different direction for it's next game? Does your definition of Ark 2 include a game within the survival genre that has many of the mechanics of Ark (taming) but which doesn't include dinos? Because while on the one hand, I find it hard to envision how a sequel that did include dinos could be much more than a chance to rewrite their game code better without changing the game much, on the other hand, Wildcard has to know that the popularity of dinosaurs is a key ingredient in the game's success. At least not without tearing your game down to the ground and starting over. As someone who has zero technical knowledge about coding but who has been playing online games since 04, I have endeavored to learn a few things from the layman's point of view, and one of the the relevant things I've picked up from multiple sources is that the reality of coding and game design is that sometimes mistakes made early in the process are ultimately either technically not correctable, or can become infeasible to correct as a practical reality. An innovative game concept that many of us find compelling and engaging, produced by a development team whose technical prowess in executing their game concept has proven to lag industry standards and even reasonable player expectations. Sure a lot more optimization work is needed, but given that the game has been publicly available for 3 years and officially launched for a year, I think the most likely reality is that in that department Ark pretty much is what it is. ![]() ![]() ![]() With Extinction due out in about 60 days (waits for the laughter to die down), it will mark the end of Wildcard's publicly announced development for Ark. So despite the doctors stern warnings, I've been thinking.
